Artisan jewellery by Robyn & Julie
We create 100% handcrafted jewellery using sheet-metal and wire; pure Australian Copper, recycled Sterling Silver, Fine Silver, Jewellers’ Brass, alternative metals and accents, natural gemstones and pearls, Vintage glass and Specialty beads. We use traditional fabrication methods of hand sawing and texturing the metal. Our work uses no solder, instead relying on cold connection methods of rivets, micro screws, nuts and bolts, and staples and tabs.
We scrounge lots of pieces from pocket watches, the antique mechanical style, with all the gears, sprockets and cogs. Escutcheon plates from old door locks are also a favourite, as are beautiful old brass items from inside old cameras. Leather from old belts, or from old furniture, brass fittings, just about anything. I’ve even used fossils.
Our designs are unique and generally one of a kind.
Our range of Steampunk designs has an industrial influence, where a lot of our inspiration comes from re-purposing old clock or watch parts, and other interesting found objects. We use genuine parts for most pieces, although for our cuffs, bracelets and cuff links we mostly use reproductions because the edges of genuine parts are often too sharp.
We often incorporate this steampunk influence into our whimsical designs in the form of embellishments or eyes.
All of our earring's feature handmade ear-wires of Sterling Silver or Niobium, a hypo-allergenic metal similar to Titanium.
